What is Valerian Root Extract?Valerian root extract has a long history of use in Western Europe as a sedative and sleep aid, with medicinal uses dating back to Hippocrates time (ca. 460-377 B.C) such as: treating headaches, insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, menstrual problems, nervous stomach, and hysteria. Clinical trials have confirmed the use of valerian for treating insomnia, especially the insomnia that accompanies menopause. It also soothes the digestive system and may prevent cramping caused by irritable bowel syndrome. The root must be dried at temperatures below 105 degrees F (40 degrees C) for its medicinally active compounds to form. In teas, it tastes sweet and spicy if somewhat bitter, but its odor is mildly unpleasant. Ancient medical texts acknowledge the odor of the herb by calling the plant phu. Valerian powder is often mixed with hops and/or lemon balm. Add a bit of sweetener for teas.Basic Information:Product NameValerian Root ExtractLatin NameValeriana officinalis L.Part UsedValerian RootAppearanceBrown Fine PowderActive IngredientValeric AcidSpecificationValeric Acid 0.8% 0.4%CAS No.8057-49-6EINECS No.232-501-7Test MethodHPLCStorageStore in a cool & dry area, keep away from the direct light and heatShelf LifeTwo years under well storage situation and stored away from direct sun lightCERTIFICATE OF ANALYSIS
